PV Palatset
Uppdrag Tengbom/ Atrium Ljungberg
In the entrance at Hälsingegatan 43, Kvarteret Blästern, Stockholm, we are met by the factory worker who once built Volvo cars in this building.
Volvo PV was manufactured here for 30 years. Atrium Ljungberg wanted to connect to the history of the building through the art work.
In 1932, the same year that Volvo moved into PV Palatset, Rörstrand's porcelain factory launched the Ostindia series. Rörstrand's blasting workshop was located in the neighborhood, hence the name Kvarteret Blästern.
To pick up traces of the rich industrial history that existed in the area, Philips light bulbs, Nordstjärnan's mineral water (later bought by Apotekarnes) and Rörstrand's porcelain were als illustrated on the wall, along with a Volvo PV 444.
The signs “PV Palatset” and “Bilkol bilved” as well as all the custom cut tile pieces, are made of stoneware, glazed and high-fired, in my workshop.
The bricks come from Hons Tegelbruk, Sweden's only remaining brickworks, which hand-makes and wood-fires bricks.
Installation of both bricks and tiles was carried out by tiler Barbara Brundin.
